2013 Dierberg Chardonnay, Santa Maria Valley

93 points, Vinous

“The 2013 Chardonnay Dierberg Vineyard is super-polished and finessed from start to finish. Scents of almond, lemon peel and flowers open up in the striking, effortless Chardonnay. Orange peel and slightly more tropical notes develop with air in a Chardonnay that offers superb textural depth and tons of personality, all in a laid-back, understated style that is such a signature of Santa Maria.” (Antonio Galloni, August 2015)

“The 2013 Chardonnay Dierberg Vineyard is a smoking white from the Santa Maria Valley…Full, bodied, rich and beautifully textured, with lots of buttered apple, melon, spice and creamy notes, it stays crisip and clean on the finish…” (Jeb Dunnuck, August 2015)

2012 Dierberg Chardonnay, Santa Maria Valley

93 points, Vinous

“Dierberg’s 2012 Chardonnay is gorgeous. Lemon oil, tropical fruit and butter are all tempered by the cool microclimate here. The flavors remain bright, focused and nuanced in a crystalline Chardonnay that stands out for its precision. A hint of sweetness from the oak adds complexity, but overall, the 2012 is a wine built on energy.” (Antonio Galloni, July 2014)

92 points, The Wine Advocate

“The 2012 Chardonnay Dierberg Vineyard is no shrinking violet and gives up ripe, layered notes of lemon curd, ripe peach, brioche and vanilla bean to go with a medium-bodied, rounded, supple profile on the palate. 100% barrel-fermented and aged 12 months in 400-liter (15% new) barrels and then 6 months in stainless steel, it’s a gorgeous wine that also represents superb value.” (Jeb Dunnuck, August 2014)

2011 Dierberg Chardonnay, Santa Maria Valley

92 points, The Tasting Panel

“Smooth and creamy with ripe, lovely fruit and subtle oak; lush, deep and balanced with a long elegant finish.” (Anthony Dias Blue)

90 points, International Wine Cellar

“Light yellow-gold. High-pitched citrus and orchard fruit aromas are complicated by notes of tarragon and white flowers. Fresh and incisive on the palate, offering lively pear and lemon zest flavors that show a silky, seamless character. Finishes with resonating spiciness and good focus, leaving a refreshingly bitter pear skin note behind.” (Josh Raynolds)

2010 Dierberg Chardonnay, Santa Maria Valley

93 points, The Wine Advocate

“The only white tasted, and a big, ripe and voluptuous effort, the 2010 Chardonnay is overflowing with notions of honeyed peaches, sauteed apples, brioche, vanilla custard and subtle mineral components on both the nose and palate. Fleshy, full-bodied and thrillingly textured, with a rich, almost creamy feel that somehow stays well-defined and pure, it is an undeniably sexy Chardonnay meant for drinking over the coming 3-4 years. Drink now -2017.” (Jeb Dunnuck)

90 points, The Tasting Panel

“Lush and juicy with bright citrus and tangy acidity; elegant, fresh and balanced with lively flavors and depth.” (Anthony Dias Blue)

90 points, Richard Jennings

“Very slightly cloudy lemon yellow color; appealing, tart lemon, quince, preserved lemon nose; tart quince, lime, mineral palate with medium acidity; needs 1-plus year and should age nicely; medium-plus finish 90+”

2009 Dierberg Chardonnay, Santa Maria Valley

94 Points, Connoisseurs’ Guide to California Wine

“Here is an exceptionally well-made Chardonnay that belies the notion that you cannot have it all. It is deep, very well-ripened and rife with rich fruit and oak, but it is also extraordinarily well-balanced and promises to get even better with age. It capably bridges the gulf between the “old” paradigm of ripeness and abundant oak and the new one of fashion that favors firmness and higher acidity instead, and it convincingly captures the best that each has to offer.”

93 Points, Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate

“Among the two Chardonnays, I have a preference for the straight 2009 Chardonnay, which is absolutely gorgeous. Rich layers of fruit caress the palate from start to finish. Aging in 400-liter oak barrels seems to integrate better with this fruit than steel, resulting in a more harmonious wine. The expansive, generous finish is framed by an unobtrusive hint of oak. This is a fabulous showing from Dierberg. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. This set of new releases from Dierberg was one of the most pleasant surprises in my Central Coast tastings.”
